Why Journal?
9 Journal Prompts For The New Year 2024
Journaling, especially at the beginning of the year, can be like hitting a reset button. To me it’s a symbol of starting right where you are with what you’ve got; evaluating where things currently stand ready to move forward. Here are just some of the benefits of journaling:
- Time Capsule – Journaling can serve as a time capsule for your life. I love being able to look back at past journals to evaluate who I was then compared to who I am now. It helps you gain perspective on how far you’ve come, and certain patterns you may hold that you weren’t even aware of.
- Accountability – When we journal, it gives us the opportunity to really be honest with ourselves. Sometimes when we’re just thinking, we can easily avoid uncomfortable truths, but writing things down gives us a safe space to explore areas where we may need to improve.
- Intention – If we can gather our thoughts in a way that is more comprehensive, like writing, we can clearly see where we want to focus as we move forward.
- Awareness – The act of journaling itself increases awareness by diverting our attention to the present moment. It allows us to sit with ourselves without outside distraction. Also, organizing the things going on inside our brains expands our perception of everything happening around us.
Remember This About Journaling
9 Journal Prompts For The New Year 2024
If you’re an overthinker or a busy body, you may think of journaling as your worst nightmare; because what’s the point of exploring things that stress you out or make you imperfect? What’s the point of giving yourself all this extra responsibility when you’ve already got enough on your plate. One thing to note; journaling can actually help identify and release unnecessary burdens that would otherwise be hard to see. Think of it simply as a way to make sense of it all. A tool at your disposal whenever you need.
I also want to emphasize the importance of balance when it comes to journaling, or any self-improvement practice for that matter. It can be overwhelming for anyone to constantly feel as though we are not doing enough; for ourselves, our loved ones, our finances, the list goes on. Picture it like this; if I make an account of the ways I would like to better my life, I can allow them to manifest naturally. We don’t reflect to stress over what we’re not doing every second. It’s simply about setting our intentions and discovering more about ourselves. The more you know about you, the more you can effortlessly align with whatever feeds your soul. So don’t ever lie to yourself about what’s good for you. If implementing certain practices in your life (including journaling) feels completely forced, draining, and unnatural, it may just not be for you and that’s okay. Don’t get me wrong; if you want to improve you’ve got to work at it with diligence. The important part is that we find methods that contribute positively to our individual journeys. I think you’re doing great. <3
With love,
Serena
